The Enduring Popularity of Jane Austen

2025 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Jane Austen, one of the best-known and beloved English writers. She is the author of several novels that deal with relationships, manners and culture of early nineteenth century England, including Pride and Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, and Emma.
To mark the occasion of her anniversary, the Wyomissing Public Library will present a free public program, "The Enduring Popularity of Jane Austin," on Wednesday, January 29th, at 6 PM. The presenter is Attorney Paul Savidge, a life member of the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA) and member of the Society’s Board of Directors. He is the former head of the Eastern Pennsylvania Region of JASNA. A devoted Janeite, Paul has presented at national and local Austen events. He has a particular internet in rare books related to Austen and her times.
The library will also host a Book Club devoted to Jane Austen and her works; the initial meeting is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 10th at 6 PM. Anyone with an interest in the author is welcome to attend. On Monday, Feb. 24th, the library will show the film "Sense & Sensibility" with Emma Thompson.
Other commemorations of Austen's life and work will be scheduled as the year goes on.
