Juneteenth
Wednesday, June. 11, 2025 | 6:00 p.m.
Wynton Butler, President of the Reading Branch NAACP, will present a program about Juneteenth on Wednesday, June 11th at 6 PM at the Wyomissing Public Library. The library is located at 9 Reading Boulevard in Wyomissing.
Juneteenth was established as a national holiday in 2021; this year the holiday falls on a Thursday. The day marks the date that federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, 3 months after the Civil War had ended and two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued, to inform African Americans that they were free. The date marks the end of slavery in the United States.
Mr. Butler will talk about the history of the holiday, nationally and locally, its importance and how the Berks County community celebrates the day.
The program is free and open to the public; registration is requested.
