Poetry Practicum
 
 Calling all poets! Join Berks County's Poet Laureate, Nancy Yeager, for our weekly poetry workshops. All levels of poets are invited to participate, and emphasis will be placed on reading and writing free verse. All you need is a notepad and a pencil.

Summer Reading 2015 Wrap-Up

We had an outstanding summer at the library this year! During our popular "Every Hero Has a Story" Summer Reading Program, 403 children/teens read over 11,000 books. An average of 30 books per child! In addition to boosting reading skills, Miss Joie focused on educational programs for all ages providing almost 100 programs this summer. Take a look at some of the highlights...

Library Card Sign-up Month!

 
September is National Library Card Sign-up Month. To celebrate this year, the library will launch our new juvenile card for children ages birth to 13! A parent or guardian must accompany the child when registering for a new juvenile card. We will begin issuing juvenile cards on September 1st.

Our new library cards were designed by Ashley D., the winner of our Library Card Design Contest.  Congratulations, Ashley!

 
*The new library card design will be available in mid-late September. Stay tuned.

The author of  "Soot" will discuss her book on Wednesday, September 9 @ 6:30 p.m.

Bridie O'Doyle lives a harsh life. The young daughter of a poor coal miner, she lives in a Pennsylvania mine patch town. When her father dies in the mine, she is left orphaned in the care of her relatives, struggling at the mercy of the cruel mine bosses and indebted to the company store. She swears vengeance upon Frank Gowen, the railroad and coal mine kingpin.

Every old house has a story to tell. Learn how to find out when your home was built, who lived there and how the building has changed through the years.

Participants will select a recipe to create and share from The Sushi Lovers Cookbook. We will try the dishes and discuss techniques used in their creation. Participants will register their recipe selection with the front desk to avoid duplicate presentations.  Registration is required.

Join Miss Joie for songs, stories and crafts at our weekly storytimes, as part of the Very Ready Reading Program!

The Very Ready Reading Program is designed to assist parents and caregivers with important tools and techniques to develop strong early literacy skills. Miss Joie will be using aspects of this program to shape her new storytimes. For more information, please click here.
 
Preschool  Storytime (ages 3-5):
 
Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. 
 
Toddler Storytime (ages 2-3):
 
Thursdays at 10:00 a.m.
 
Pretty Important Preschooler Storytime (ages 3-5):

Mini Mother Goose on the Loose
 
For ages birth - 24 months.  Siblings are welcome to attend.
Every Friday morning @ 10:00 a.m.
 
Join us for music, movement, nursery rhymes,
instruments and stories.  The program is designed to support the development of literacy skills and strengthen the bond between a care-giver and child.  It is most beneficial when children experience the program on a weekly basis.  Mini MGOL lasts approximately 15-20 minutes.  No registration required!
TUTOR TIME!
 
 
Do you know a reluctant reader? Do your kids struggle with reading and writing? Could they use a little extra help? Miss Joie is here to help build their skills! This program is FREE and runs every Tuesday after school for the 2015-2016 school year by appointment ONLY. Email Miss Joie at joie@wyopublib.org for more details.

Depending on the interest, sessions will be offered for 30 minutes each week. Extra time for reading and writing can be scheduled with Miss Joie at a later date.
*Math and science also offered!

Cost: $30 per person (includes dinner, snacks, & breakfast)
